The records are not yet on the shelves, not yet touched by the mild boredom of order. I cannot march up and down their ranks to pass them in review before a friendly audience. You need not fear any of that. Instead, I must ask you to join me in the disorder of vinyl crates that have been wrenched open, the air saturated with the dust of wood, the floor covered with torn open cardboard mailers, to join me among piles of LP's and 7" singles that are seeing daylight again after what might be many years of darkness, so that you may be ready to share with me a bit of the mood - it is certainly not an elegiac mood but, rather, one of anticipation - which these records arouse in a genuine Groove Collector. Nice shot-I had completely forgotten about this one. I bought it in Tony Monsons Disc Empire in Kings Road in 1982.Chris Bangs used to spin Swan Lake prompting me to buy it but when i got the lp Spirits Samba was the cut for me too! I'll post the lp over at OIR in the next few days.

A few people are starting to ask me about this one, so thanks for the full post. I stll can't believe everyone hasn't got this already. I bought this up after a Gilles Set at Spats in Totenham Court Road,also around the 1982 era. Loads of good stuff on the LP but Spirits Samba brings back all the memories for me.

Wasn't it called Jazz Junction - Spats - where Peterson played on saturday lunchtime.Remember going to one with the cutting edge crew (big tune that day was Pastorius' Used To Be A Cha Cha)then over to Brixton to see Fela Kuti then out with Murphy for an all night piss up in glorious Balham.Great days - my liver still hasn't recovered!
That's funny. You're dead right though, it was called Jazz Junction. GP used to record some sets for me on the old TDK 90's and then after we all used to go down to Murphy's shop in Soho to grab the tunes.
So so good, Getting back on the train used to be fun too.
Just dug out another Pike favourite, "Times Out of Mind" LP which I'll post over next few days.

It's good to see the interest in this track/album.
Reading about clubs back in the day...just when I was discovering this fantastic "deeper" jazz music made me remember going to The Orchard Spot just outside Maidstone (also around 1982?)& unbeliveable when you think now but Robbie Vincent spun Swanlake for the pleasure of the Maidstone masses....!!
Trouble was it wasn't appreciated by many (probably only me!) & the dance floor instantly cleared!

That's made me laugh. I remember those kind of times when a dj would play the odd heavy jazz tune to a less than apprciative audience and the floor would clear.. I remember being in the DJ booth with my mate Sylvester who had been playing a load of heavy afro cuban tunes when some guy started trying to kick the door down cos he had heard enough and wanted some 60's soul instead...oh great times we had....
